『高くて堅い壁』 と 『卵』 の喩えが、ブログやミニコミで話題になっている、
村上春樹さんの「エルサレム賞」授賞式での講演。
一般マスコミでは、村上氏の発言の、その部分を
如何に『壁が正しく』、『卵が誤って』 いようとも、私は『卵』の側に立つ
と伝えていますが、
原文の印象は、随分と違うようです。
マスコミの引用では、イスラエルとハマスが戦争しているその時に
『テロリスト』 とイスラエルが主張する 『ハマス』 を支持したかのようにもとれます。
しかし、原文を見ると
壁が正しいかどうか、卵が誤っているかどうかは、歴史が証明するだろうが、
私は卵の側に着く
という文脈のようです。
そうすると、180度とは言わないまでも大きくニュアンスが異なります。
後者であれば、何もテロリストを支持するという意味ではなく、
殆どの人々が支持できるると思います。

The eggs are the unarmed civilians
who are crushed and burned and shot by them.
This is one meaning of the metaphor.
